Dear Eyebrow Police,
Please, let’s address the elephant in the room….AGAIN…so we can FINALLY make peace.
My eye brows.
You have a problem with them. I get it.
I didn’t even realize my eyebrows honestly were bad until I got unlimited amounts of hate about how ugly I was. Pictures comparing me to cartoon dogs, rainbows, mustaches, etc. I am a person, not a character from a fairytale. I know I am in the public eye, and that comes with the territory, but it doesn’t change the fact that I also have feelings and that you are being a bully. I can’t tell you how many times I have been reluctant to put a photo up because I knew the “brow backlash” was coming.
I used to poke fun at them, at myself…but I’m exhausted.
I didn’t come from a family of full face makeup. My grandmother taught me to always put on a little lipstick before you go out the door. My mom showed me how to use powder. Now I am showing her how to use everything else. Brows were never filled in until a few years ago anyway…it’s become a trend.
The reason my eyebrows are different:
My eyebrow hair doesn’t grow because I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. This condition makes it difficult to even grow hair on your head (thus I wear extensions). My eyebrows have not grown for about 15 years. I have not plucked once.
Now let me thank you for one thing and one thing only. You are right in the fact that brows DO shape a face. They give you a more youthful look and they help your eyes POP! You were NOT right in your delivery. Not right AT ALL. Please do NOT do this to ANYONE else. I’m strong and I can take it. Some people are not that lucky. Look in the mirror on your outside AND inside.
Brows: I tried filling them in, and it just wasn’t working for me. I didn’t want to stress anymore about my makeup rubbing off at the beach…I didn’t want to bring an eyebrow pencil around with me everywhere. I didn’t want to think, or worry anymore. So I started researching
BROW FEATHERING at Anastacia Ski Studio in Nashville
(what their website says)
“Say Goodbye to “filling” in your brows and Hello to an extra 10 minutes in the morning! This is your solution to flat, unnatural or thin eyebrows. Unlike other techniques that create flat brows (known in the 90’s) Anastasia’s Feathering Technique gives individual, angled hair strokes that mimic your natural hair-growth pattern.
Brow Feathering is a form of microblading also known as semi permanent cosmetics. Anastacia uses high-quality topical anesthetics to decrease any pain or discomfort that you may feel. This helps to tolerate the pain but definitely isn’t painless. As for color, we use specialty pigments that stay true to color and can accommodate a range of skin tones and hair colors to ensure a match for each individual.”
I went into Anastasia and was greeted will smiles and hello’s that only come from those type of people who REALLY care about their customers. They didn’t know “who I was”, but they empathized with my struggle. And trust me when I say, I told them EVERYTHING. I booked an appointment, a little reluctant but excited. I was scared that I was giving into the bully’s by doing this….but then took a moment for myself and said “Carly, is about YOU. If it makes it easier for YOU. If you feel like your face looks more defined. If you would wake up and life would be a bit easier….GO FOR IT. This has NOTHING to do with ANYONE but YOU!”
The appointment lasted a little over an hour. It is a row of small blades that cuts your skin, and they fill that cut in with pigment. I’m not going to lie and say that it didn’t hurt. It did, but I knew I was in the hands of an artist, and a new friend who was giving me the gift of perfect brows. Something I had dreamed of!
When she was wrapping up she proclaimed “OH, WOW I CAN NOT WAIT for you to see yourself. You’re brows are SO BEAUTIFUL!” and THEY WERE!!! I opened by eyes to the way I dreamed they would. I cried. We hugged. It was the best beauty choice I have EVER MADE!
I’m SO thanfull and happy that I made this decision. It is a GAME CHANGER and REALLY worked for me. I would recommend it ALL AROUND, especially at Anastacia Skin Studio.
